Northwest General Hospital & Research Center Laboratory is equipped with state of the art analyzers . We have highly skilled, qualified and dedicated staff to perform a variety of Patients diagnostic services. Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre Laboratory takes the quality of its test results very seriously. The laboratory is enrolled in RIQAS and EQAS, two highly reputed international External Quality Assurance Programs. This proficiency testing is compared with thousands of laboratories across the world. Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre Laboratory has consistently being rated among the top rated laboratories enrolled in these programs. An internal Quality Control being also regularly run on daily basis to ensure the accuracy of our results. Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre Laboratory has its prides on turn around time of 2 hours for all routine tests. Our Laboratory has the fastest reporting time in Pakistan. All critical patients test are performed on a special priority and reported even faster to our reported patients. A special separate priority queue is set for these emergency and critically ill patients.

We focus at continual improvement in Laboratory Quality Management System in the line of policy determined and monitored at Management Review.

Radiology Services

The department of Radiology on North West General Hospital, Peshawar is well-equipped to cater to a variety of Patients and their radiology procedures, Radiology department has been recently recognized by College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan(CPSP) for post graduate training and well inshallah start post graduate training from january, 2014.Round-the-clock services fulfills the needs of inpatients, outpatients and outside referrals by providing the best possible and modern diagnostic facilities in the main radiology unit.The department provides vital support services across the spectrum of clinical specialties, and as leaders we initiate and promote change.The Department of Radiology is licensed by Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA). Renewal of the license is linked with the Radiation Protection regulation compliance which PNRA checks and recognizes through their annual inspections.

Interventional Radiology:

Interventions are offered including, Hepatobiliary procedures, Urology Intervention, other non- vascular and Vascular Procedures. We offer alcohol injection and TACE to patients with Heptacellular Carcinoma, ultra sound guided FNA and core biopsies. CT guided core biopsies, percutaneous gastrostomy tubes, abdominal drainage catheters and dedicated breast biopsies.

  • Bone Densitometry (DEXA SCAN):
  • We have a recently installed Hologic bone densitometer which assesses the bone strength and fracture risk.

Endoscopy Unit

Endoscopy unit in Northwest General Hospital & Research Center is a modern, well designed, spacious suite with attached recovery room, chaining room, storage and washroom.It is well staffed with nurses and endoscopy technicians. The unit is equipped with state of the art Olympus systems, automatic disinfectant trolleys, gastroscopes, bronchoscopes, cystoscopes, and a color printer, which gives a colored print of the procedure report with pictures.All sorts of gastro-intestinal procedures are carried out by highly qualified and expert doctors, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, variceal band ligation, PEG tube, stent placements, polypectomy. In addition ERCP is performed with help of fluoroscopy in the radiology department.

NWGH Laboratory operates 24 / 7 round the year. In fact, by the grace of God, since we started operations first time in 2009, we have remained open for our patients every day. Be it Eid, Christmas, New Years Day or any other public holiday. We value our patients.

Nuclear Medicine scan tells your doctor about structure and function of your body parts.

Is Scan Safe?

Yes. Medicine use for the scan is like a common drug. It is use in very small amount with small amount of radioactive material. Radiation exposure is in safe limits.

Will Scan Hurt..?

There is no pain or side effects. Medicine is given either by mouth, by injection or by breath.

Should I Prepare For Scan..?

Most scans do not require any preparations. However, few scans need preparations and information is given on the time of taking appointment by the department.

Will I have to Stay in Hospital..?

No. Mostly scans are finished on the same day.

What Happens When I Have Scan..?

You will be given medicine. You should remove jewelry and metal objects from pockets. Scans my be done immediately or after few hours.

How Is Nuclear Medicine Scan Different From X-Ray or CT...?

As patient is given medicine, radiation from patient body is detected by Gamma Camera and image is made. While CT and X-Ray, machines gave radiation to patient to make image.

What Is Nuclear Medicine Therapy?

Nuclear Medicines are used to treat some conditions like overactive thyroid gland, cancer bone pains and joints pains etc.

Can I Continue to Nurse My Baby After The Scan Or Therapies..?

Yes but you may have to strop breast feeding for few hours or few weeks depending on scan or therapy. With some few weeks depending on scan or therapy. With some therapies you have to stop it completely.

Do I Need To Do Anything Special After The Scan...?

You will be ask to take a lot of fluids, flush multiple times when using washroom, stay at a small distance from children and pregnant women for few hours after the scan.
