On August 21, 2024, the Medical Professional Education Department (MPED) at Northwest General Hospital & Research Center (NWGH & RC), in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and Allied, successfully conducted e-workshops titled “Chest Tube Placement for Possible Hemothorax” and “Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (EFAST) Exam.” These sessions were part of the institution’s “World-Class Surgical Education Program,” aimed at enhancing the skills of Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs) in managing complex trauma diagnoses.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Stanford Medicine, Methodist Leading Medicine, The University of Chicago, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, UCLA, Johns Hopkins University, Weill Cornell Medical College, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, was supervised by Prof. Dr. Sidra Jabbar Khan, Dean MPED. The workshops offered comprehensive training on critical trauma procedures, with Prof. Dr. Tariq Jabbar Khan, Consultant General Surgery, leading an interactive question and answer session to ensure thorough understanding.
The workshops highlighted the importance of precision and swift decision-making in trauma scenarios, providing valuable insights into the use of sonography for rapid assessment. Participants praised the training for significantly enhancing their diagnostic skills and readiness for complex trauma cases. Mr. Malik Abdul Latif, MD NWGH commended the workshops for their high educational value and acknowledged the positive feedback from participants, noting improvements in their diagnostic capabilities and overall preparedness.
