On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Medical Professional Education Department (MPED) at Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre, Peshawar, successfully hosted a symposium titled “Mastering Intrauterine Insemination: Workshop for Clinical Excellence.” This event was specifically designed for postgraduate trainees and led by Dr. Gul-E-Rana, a renowned expert in the field.
The workshop provided an in-depth, hands-on learning experience in Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), a popular assisted reproductive technique. IUI is utilized in approximately 15% of fertility treatments worldwide, with success rates ranging from 10% to 20% per cycle. These rates can improve to 40% when combined with ovarian stimulation. IUI is particularly effective for patients under 35 years old and those with mild infertility, offering a cost-effective alternative to more invasive procedures like IVF.
Dr. Sidra Jabbar Khan, Dean of MPED, expressed her appreciation to Dr. Gul-E-Rana for her valuable contributions. She underscored the importance of such workshops in enhancing clinical skills and announced the need for additional sessions focused on diagnostic procedures. These efforts aim to improve postgraduate trainees’ competencies and elevate the standards of medical training at NWGH & RC.
