Northwest Peshawar hosted the G4 Alliance conference and a “Burns Prevention Awareness Seminar”, bringing together healthcare professionals, burn survivors, and the public to address Pakistan’s high prevalence of burn injuries.
Dr. Obaidullah, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at NWGH, highlighted the devastating impact of burn injuries, which affect 1.3 million people annually in Pakistan, leading to 26,000 deaths and 550,000 disabilities. Ms. Amy Leah Potter, a trauma and global health expert, emphasized the need for swift emergency care and patient safety, while Massarat Misbah, Chairperson of SmileAgain Foundation, advocated for community engagement and education to prevent burns and support recovery.
Survivors shared their powerful testimonies, urging proactive safety measures to prevent kitchen accidents, fuel mishandling, and electrical fires. The seminar underscored the importance of prevention, timely treatment, and holistic care to reduce the physical, emotional, and social toll of burn injuries, particularly among vulnerable groups like women and children.
Together, we can empower communities to protect themselves and their loved ones from preventable tragedies.
