As part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement and public health awareness, the Northwest is pleased to announce a Helmet Distribution Drive aimed at preventing Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and promoting road safety. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the G4 Alliance and the Traffic Police Department, seeks to address the growing concern of head injuries resulting from road traffic accidents involving motorcyclists. As part of the drive, helmets were distributed to motorcycle riders who were not wearing protective headgear, underscoring the critical importance of helmet use in preventing serious head injuries. Additionally, helmets were provided to our own employees who commute on motorcycles, not only ensuring their safety but also setting a positive example for the broader community.
Traumatic Brain Injuries are a major public health issue, and research shows that wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of severe injuries and fatalities. By offering helmets free of charge, this initiative aims to reduce the incidence of head injuries, foster a culture of safety and responsibility among road users, and collaborate with key stakeholders to amplify the impact of road safety campaigns.
Prof. Tariq Khan, a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Northwest School of Medicine, emphasized, “Our goal is to protect lives by promoting simple yet effective safety measures. Wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of severe head injuries. Through this initiative, we are not only providing helmets but also educating the community about the importance of road safety.”
A representative from the G4 Alliance, an international coalition committed to improving access to safe surgical and trauma care worldwide, expressed their support: “We are delighted to support this local effort in Peshawar. Community initiatives like this align perfectly with our mission to improve access to safe surgical and trauma care in underserved regions.”
The Chief Traffic Police Officer Saud Khan, also voiced its support, with a spokesperson stating, “Safety on the roads is a shared responsibility. By partnering in this helmet distribution drive, we aim to encourage compliance with traffic laws and reduce accidents and injuries.”
This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to promoting road safety, reducing fatalities, and building a safer, more responsible community for all.
