International Conference on Movement Disorders in Pashtoon Society

The Northwest General Hospital and Research Centre (NWGH), in collaboration with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society – Asian and Oceanian Section, recently hosted a two-day conference titled “International Conference on Movement Disorders in Pashtoon Society.”
The conference focused on critical topics related to genetic studies in children, particularly the implications of cousin marriages within the Pashtoon community. A significant portion of the event was dedicated to raising awareness about movement disorders, disabilities, and genetic disorders in children.
On the first day of the conference, Dr. Athar Khalily delivered an insightful presentation on movement disorders in children, showcasing real case scenarios that resonated with the audience. He emphasized the importance of early recognition and intervention in treating movement disorders to prevent permanent brain damage.
Professor Christine Klein, a German expert, joined the conference via Zoom and highlighted the role of genetics in various movement disorders.
Attendees were informed about the comprehensive genetic testing services available at NWGH, which are essential for accurate diagnosis and genetic counseling. The conference also underscored the importance of prenatal examinations as a proactive measure to prevent genetic disorders.
Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Muhammad Arif, Dr. Muhammad Bilal Sethi, Dr. Athar Khalily (Pediatric Neurologist) , and Dr. Shoaib, shared their expertise on these pressing issues.
