The Medical Professional Education Department, in collaboration with the Endocrine Department at Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre, hosted an insightful symposium titled “Reshaping the Approach in Cholesterol Management” on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. This event brought together medical professionals, including consultants, senior registrars, postgraduate trainees, and house officers, to explore contemporary strategies in cholesterol management.
Keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Arshad Hussain, a renowned expert in endocrinology, shared his insights on the evolving therapeutic landscape, emphasizing the importance of early detection and intervention in reducing cardiovascular risks associated with dyslipidemia. Dr. Nizam Uddin, Senior Registrar in Endocrinology, highlighted both the essential role of cholesterol in cellular function and the dangers of elevated LDL-C levels. He particularly emphasized the alarming prevalence of dyslipidemia in Pakistan, which stands at 96%, significantly affecting urban populations and diabetic patients.
The symposium concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, allowing participants to discuss real-world clinical challenges and best practices. Ultimately, this gathering underscored MPED’s commitment to fostering high-quality medical education and ensuring healthcare professionals are equipped with the latest evidence-based practices to enhance patient care.
