The Department of Endocrinology in collaboration with the Medical Professional Education Department, NWGH&RC organized an insightful symposium on “Role of Nutrition for Out-Patient, In-Patient, and Critical Care” on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, for healthcare professionals, nutrition experts, and medical practitioners.

The symposium provided a comprehensive overview of the critical role nutrition plays across various healthcare settings. The following keynote speaker addresses the symposium.

The symposium discussed the systematic process of evaluating a patient’s nutritional status to identify any nutritional deficiencies, imbalances, or risks that could affect their overall health and recovery. Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST was discussed in detail.

Presenters discussed the implementation of comprehensive nutritional assessments upon hospital admission and the development of individualized nutrition care plans. The session highlighted successful case studies where proactive nutrition management led to improved patient outcomes and reduced hospital stays.

The symposium also addressed the complexities of nutrition in critical care settings. Experts discussed the challenges of providing adequate nutrition to critically ill patients, including those with sepsis, trauma, and multi-organ failure. Innovative strategies such as early enteral feeding, parenteral nutrition, and the use of specialized formulas were presented.
